Vertex e-Invoicing to now cover Australia as an accredited Peppol access point

We are proud to announce that ecosio has successfully achieved ATO (Australian Taxation Office) accreditation and is officially a Peppol Access Point in Australia. This is a critical milestone, giving enterprises a reliable way to meet Australian requirements within the same global compliance setup they already use.solidifying our solution for the Asia-Pacific region.

Australian businesses and their global partners can now leverage our single platform for seamless B2G and B2B compliance, meeting the new, mandatory PINT A-NZ e-invoicing standard. This reduces the need for additional APAC vendors and avoids duplicate integration work. With the Australian government slowly moving towards making e-invoicing the default payment method by July 2025, readiness is essential for faster payments and guaranteed compliance.

What Australian accreditation actually changes for you

While Australia does not yet have a universal B2B mandate, the landscape is rapidly evolving and uniquely complex. The Australian government is significantly driving adoption through the Peppol network, enforcing strict mandates for Commonwealth agencies to receive e-invoices. This makes Australia a key region for enterprises that want a consistent, scalable compliance footprint across APAC.

Key challenges for businesses:

  • Strict security standards: Australia maintains robust security and fraud prevention standards for digital service providers. To ensure compliance and mitigate risks like Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams, providers must undergo a thorough accreditation process mandated by the ATO. By using an accredited provider, teams avoid running their own certification and reduce security workload.

  • Format migration (PINT A-NZ): The region is currently transitioning from the older Peppol BIS 3.0 format to the new PINT A-NZ standard. Businesses must update their data mapping to accommodate these new specifications to remain compliant. ecosio applies these updates centrally so customers do not need separate mapping projects for Australia.

  • Incentivised payment terms: The "On-Time Payment Policy" means federal agencies are required to pay e-invoices within 5 days, significantly faster than the standard 20+ days, making e-invoicing a critical cash-flow tool. Suppliers connected through a compliant access point gain faster and more predictable payment cycles.

On the B2B side, the business e-invoicing right (BER) initiative is slowly reshaping how B2B transactions are done. While optional today, BER gives businesses a legal right to request e-invoices from their trading partners, which encourages broader Peppol adoption.

Timeline

Australia follows a "Government First" strategy where public sector adoption creates market pressure for the private sector. This means enterprises benefit from preparing their APAC compliance setup early, before adoption requirements expand.

  • 1 July 2022: The federal mandate officially came into effect, requiring all Commonwealth Government agencies to be capable of receiving e-invoices via the Peppol network.

  • 1 July 2025: E-invoicing becomes the default payment method for all Non-Corporate Commonwealth Entities (NCEs), driving widespread adoption across state and local government levels.

  • 2026 and beyond: Federal agencies aim for 30 percent e-invoice adoption by mid-2026. Discussions are underway regarding broader B2B requirements. This signals increasing regulatory expectations for private sector readiness.
